10 Proven Online Marketing Strategies for Home Service Companies
There’s no shortage of marketing advice for contractors. Most of it is either obvious or expensive. Here are the ten things we’ve actually watched make phones ring — updated for how people search now.
1. Work your Google Business Profile every week
Your profile — the box with the map, reviews, and photos — decides who shows up when your town searches your trade. Claim it, fill in every field, and post to it weekly. A profile that was set up once in 2019 and never touched reads as a business that might not answer.
2. Build a page for every service and every town
Someone searching for a deck builder in their town doesn’t want your homepage — they want proof you do decks, in their town. One page per service per area you actually work. It’s tedious. It’s also how you show up in twelve towns instead of one.
3. Get reviews on a steady drip
Ask every happy customer, right when the job wraps, with a link that takes two taps. Steady beats surge: five reviews a month for a year looks like a business people trust. Fifty in one week looks like you bought them.
4. Make your site fast on a phone — with a number they can tap
Most of your visitors are on a phone, many in a hurry. If the site is slow or the number takes hunting, they’re calling the next name on the list. Speed and tap-to-call aren’t design details; they’re the whole game.
5. Show up in AI answers
New one, and it’s not optional anymore: ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers now recommend contractors by name. They pull from your profile, your reviews, your listings, and whether your website plainly answers real questions. Structure your pages so a machine reading them knows exactly what you do and where — that’s what gets your name in the answer.
6. Post real jobs, not stock photos
On social media, a muddy crew and a finished patio beat a polished graphic every time. You’re not trying to go viral — you’re letting your town watch you work until the day they need you.
7. Use video to introduce yourself before the call
People hire contractors they feel like they’ve already met. A short video of you explaining how you handle an estimate does more trust-building than a page of text — and it works for you around the clock.
8. Clean up your listings everywhere
Your business is listed on more sites than you know — and some have your old number or address. Every mismatch costs you calls and makes search engines trust your information less. Find them, fix them, keep them consistent.
9. Catch the leads you’re already losing
Missed a call while on a roof? That caller is dialing your competitor within minutes. A simple missed-call text-back, and a follow-up on every estimate that didn’t book, wrings more jobs out of the leads you already paid to get.
10. Track leads, not clicks
Traffic reports don’t pay for trucks. Track what matters: calls, form fills, booked jobs, and where each one came from. If a marketing dollar can’t be traced to the phone ringing, question it.
You don’t have to do all ten this month. Start with the free audit — it’ll show you which of these are already working for you, which are missing, and which one to fix first.
